Adult Basic Sewing

Sewing 101
This class is geared for the first time sewing student or someone who has perhaps has not sewn since high school. As you make your garment you will learn fundamental sewing skills that are applicable to all facets of sewing. This class focuses on how to take proper measurements, pattern alterations and fabric and notion selection. Basic fitting techniques, pattern layout, how to fully operate a sewing machine, garment construction and finishing techniques will be taught.
All students should bring their machine.

CHILDREN'S SEWING

The Sewing Institute's sewing classes are a fun-filled, non-competitive experience for children 7 and up. The beginning of a lifetime skill is offered in children's basic sewing. Beginner students are introduced to concepts of color and style, measuring, marking, cutting, and fully operating a sewing machine.

Each session allows the completion of 2-4 wearable garments and accessories.

POLAR FLEECE EXTRAVAGANZA

Prerequisite Sewing 101 Level 1 and Introduction to the serger

Polar fleece garments and accessories will be contructed in this class.  

Make a basic cape, scarf, hat, etc., in this 2 1/2 hour class. All sewing supplies must be purchased prior to class, including a threaded serger or sewing machine. Early registratiuon is required and project approval will be determined by the descretion of the instructor.

CROCHET 101 

Learn the language, basic tools of the trade and the simple steps in crocheting a scarf embellsihed with fringe. The foundation chain, slip knot and half crochet stich  will be taught during this session. Please inquire regarding details and class preparation. All supplies should be purchasd prior to the first class. Yarn weight, and assorted hooks sizes should be determined prior to start date.

Introduction to the Serger

This class is desigend to give yoy step by step hands on instruction on the complete function of a serger. You will be taught serger fundamentals as well as how to create quick, simplified decorative techniques. You must bring your serger, manual and all accessories.

CHILDREN'S MINI SEWING & CRAFT CAMP

Summer 2013 Dates to be determined

Mondays & Wednesdays 9:30-4:30 

(2 -2 week sessions)

The Sewing Institute’s children’s sewing and craft camp program consists of Sewing, Needle-art & Crafts. The Sewing session allows the completion of 2-4 wearable garments and accessories and the needlearts and craft portion includes quilting, crocheting, free hand embroidery and beading. A sewing machine is required but, if you do not own one arrangements can be made prior to the session for rental.

(1 hour lunch break,  bring bag lunch)

BASIC SEWING SUPPLIES

Glass head pins, tape measure, seam gauge, household scissors, 8” bent handle shears, chalk squares, seam ripper, pin cushion and notebook and pencil for note taking.

*2nd Year students,  upon registration the next level project will be determined and included will be a mini refresher update on basic skills.

                          Burning Barriers Building Bridges - B4 Youth TheatreAn International Relief  Service Ministry Project-Thanks You  Once again... we are preparing to bless 86 children in an orphanage in Monrovia, Liberia.Thank you for ALL you HAVE DONE….I thank the communities of Covington and Conyers for their continued support and assistance in meeting the needs of children in West Africa. We are collectively organizing to send embroidered pocket pillows designed and manufactured by the Couture Club. They are stuffed with note pads, pencils and toiletries.We have combined out efforts to support B4 Youth Theater Inc., located in Aberden, Md. Local extracurricular clubs from Indian Creek Middle School including the “Couture Club” a young girls clothing and accessory design club, YPALS a young boys club aspiring to acquire life skills for succes and the Elite Young Ladies, a group that focuses on developing the proper attitude and image through etiqutte practices towards life challenges have committed to contributing specific items in preparation for shipping in time for the celebgration of Easter 2013. I would also like to thank all those individuals that took the time and wrote a “Hello its me” letter to spread more cheer as we approach this blessed holiday.
